Rhode Island Drug Case: Two sentenced to Prison for Marijuana Charges

- U.S. District Judge William E. Smith has sentenced two men who admitted their roles in drug trafficking. Geraldo Alavez, 46, of San Diego, Calif., received a term of 5½ years in federal prison. Jose Luis Martinez-Garcia, 37, of Woodhaven, N.Y., got 2 years. They pleaded guilty in September to conspiracy to distribute and possession with the intent to distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana. A third defendant, Donato Rogelio Mayen-Munoz, 37, of San Diego, Calif., is awaiting trial on the same charges.
